The VW Golf has been a staple of the hot hatchback scene for a very long time. It has been hugely successful but even the most sellable cars need upgrades from time to time.
Well, the update to the Golf will surely not disappoint petrolheads.

The new VW Golf will get a good chunk of updates this time. First of the upgrades is the new engine which is petrol rather than diesel. The new powerplant will be a 1.5 litre turbocharged TSI Evo engine capable of producing 148bhp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The engine has some fuel saving tricks up its sleeve like shutting down cylinders when not needed and a new combustion cycle. The fuel economy rating of the new Golf is 57.6mpg. The engine also features a variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger which is also used by Audi. The engine is paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven speed DSG dual clutch gearbox. There are no performance figures as of the moment.

The Golf also gets some semi-autonomous driving tech upgrades for 2017.
There is a new Traffic Jam Assist system where the car will steer, accelerate and brake when below 37mph given that your hands are still on the wheel. There is also a trailer assist feature that guides the car and whatever it tows (if any) into a parking bay.

The VW Golf will also get some digital toys inside the car. There will be a central 9.2-inch infotainment system with gesture controls which is a first for its class. The display also allows for touch and voice commands. You can also sync your device Android or Apple device to control the media and satnav remotely. The car also features an Active Info Display virtual cockpit system which can be customised.
The VW Golf will be available in dealerships in February 2017. The base price of this hot hatch will be £18,000.
