The Quick and Agile Caterham Seven 310R

Caterham has long been regarded as one of the most respected builders of two-seater pocket rockets. Their current lineup has 5 super quick two seaters that are fun to drive both on the track or on the road. Now, a supposed engine upgrade option has become the sixth model in the Caterham lineup.

The Caterham Seven 310R came into being as an engine option for the Seven 270.

When the top brass drove the 270 with the bigger engine, they decided to add it as a separate model in the lineup. The Seven 310R has a 1.6 litre inline four engine from Ford with a power output of 152bhp and 119 lb-ft of torque. The Seven 310R can accelerate to 62mph from a standstill in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 126mph. The engine can be paired with a five-speed manual gearbox or the optional six-speed. This two-seater will outrun any of those turbocharged hot hatches that are so popular today.

The Seven 310R has some more upgrades to differentiate it from the 270. The engine gets new performance camshafts, air filters, spark plugs and intake system. The ECU has also been tweaked to produce a bit more power. The Seven 310R only weighs a measly 540kgs.

As with any Caterham, there are a lot of optional bits that you can get to upgrade the Seven 310R. You can get bigger brakes, beefier suspension, adjustable roll bars, limited slip differential and racing seats with a harness. You can also add some carbon fibre bits like the hood and doors.

The Caterham Seven 310R will set you back around £24,995 for the built car. You can save some £3,000 if you want it shipped in pieces and build it yourself. We prefer the whole car but some would want the challenge of building it. Think Lego, but much larger and a whole lot more fun.
