The Mercedes AMG GT Roadster has Arrived

The Paris Motor Show will be quite interesting with the arrival of several cars. One of the cars that will debut in Paris is the roadster version of the Mercedes-AMG GT-R Coupe that was introduced a couple of months ago. It is sleek, sexy and most likely be one of the most interesting roadsters of the year.

Meet the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster

The Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster is basically the GT-R Coupe with the roof chopped off. There are two versions of the GT Roadster: the standard edition GT Roadster and the insanely powerful GT C Roadster. The GT-C Roadster is powered by a 4.0-litre twin turbocharged V8 petrol engine capable of producing 549bhp and 502 lb-ft of torque. The GT Roadster has a more civilised output of 469bhp and 465 lb-ft. Both variants are coupled with a seven-speed DCT gearbox and a rear wheel drive layout. The performance figures are 3.7 seconds to 62mph from a standstill and a top speed of 196mph for the GT-C Roadster. The standard GT Roadster has a more civilised 4.0 seconds and 188mph.

The GT-C and GT Roadsters have some tricks beyond the sexy looks and powerful engine. AMG has added electronic differentials, rear wheel steering and a performance exhaust system. There is active aerodynamics with the front aero flaps which minimises drag and the pop-up rear spoilers that deploy at certain speeds.

The GT Roadsters are built to be lightweight with its weight saving components: composite boot lid, magnesium, steel and aluminium retractable roof, and other aluminium components. The roof can be fully deployed in 11 seconds at speeds of 30mph. The side skirts, dash and seat backs have been strengthened in lieu of the retractable roof.

The GT and GT-C Roadsters are available in 11 different paint jobs and 10 different interior colours. The soft top is also available in three different colours. There are no prices yet but expect it to be in the £100,000 range for the GT and more than £110,000 for the GT-C Roadster. Stay tuned for more news on this sweet looking pair of roadsters.
