Today marks the last day of Holden Manufacturing in Australia which is super sad for not only the guys at the factory making the stuff but also the general public. Regardless of your interest in cars and automotive culture, the Holden brand managed to etch itself into the fabric of the country with iconic vehicles like the Monaro, the FJ, the Kingswood, the HSV, and larger than life racing personalities like Peter Brock (RIP mate) who’d thunder around Mount Panorama every year.
The closure of the manufacturing plant today also puts a full stop on the car manufacturing industry across Australia. It’s not like we didn’t see it coming, the big manufacturers told us years ago. Even still the news is hugely significant and will be one of those things that get remembered in history.
So from all us at FitMyCar, we say goodbye to car manufacturing on these shores and wish all the very best to the factory staff still looking for work!
