Onboard with the King of Pikes Peak

We had some coverage about this year’s Pike Peak International Hill Climb and the ultra cool Acura NSX hybrid. Honda was pinning its hopes on the car to repeat the success they had last year. But we have a new king of the hill this year and his name is Romain Dumas.

Romain Dumas is a very well known name in endurance racing. Before entering into the Pikes Peak hill climb, he won the Le Mans 24 Hour Race just a week earlier. Mr Dumas races with the Porsche team in both the Le Mans 24 Hour Race and the FIA World Endurance championships. For the Pikes Peak hill climb, he drove a Norma Auto Concept M20 RD Limited. The M20 RD Limited was developed specifically for Pikes Peak.

The video above is a glimpse into what it is to drive up Pikes Peak and its twisting roads and all the tight turns. The winning time was 8:51:445 seconds with an average speed of 81.28mph. The course length is 12.42 miles, has 156 turns and ascends 4,720 feet up into the clouds.

The Acura NSX and the Norma M20 RD Limited are not the only cool cars to compete in this year’s edition of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. This year there are around 100 entries ranging from motorcycles to classic muscle cars and to some serious racers.  There is a very cool looking Dodge Viper ACR, some open wheel racers and even a Nascar race car. The hill climb is divided into several divisions to accommodate the different entries. There is even a special demonstration run that features new cars and technology. We are leaving you with a gallery of the best cars from this year’s Pike Peak International Hill Climb. Enjoy!
