Due to “significant customer demand” and the 675LT coupe limited to only 500 in its production run, McLaren has found a very ingenious solution: take the bloody roof off and call the new one the McLaren 675LT Spider. Problem solved!
Yes, the new McLaren 675LT Spider is the convertible version of the existing coupe. The new convertible has gained an additional 40kg but is still a lightweight, tipping the scales at 1,270kg.
So you wonder why it’s heavier when they’ve already taken the roof off?
The added weight is solely due to the mechanism that retracts the three-piece convertible top. McLaren has stated that there is no need for additional reinforcements since the carbon fiber bodywork is strong enough for the convertible model. Performance specs are almost the same with the coupe version with its 3.8-liter V8 twin turbo engine producing a mighty 666 horsepower and 516 foot-pounds of torque. The Mclaren has a 7-speed double clutch gearbox to drive the rear wheels and can go from naught to 60mph in just 2.9 seconds. Can I just say—WOW?
The downside to being a convertible is that it suffers slightly at higher speeds. The convertible is .2 seconds slower than the roadster when sprinting to 124mph and has a slower top speed of 203mph compared to the 205mph of the coupe. Fuel economy remains the same at 18 miles per gallon.
The new McLaren 675LT Spider has a limited edition Solis paint job, optional 20-inch ultra-lightweight forged allow wheels and custom interior stitching. There is also an optional Club Sport Professional Pack that adds visual carbon fiber and “stealth” detailing to the car along with blacked out wheels. All other features like the carbon fiber body panels, longtail airbrake and an aerodynamic package that comes standard with the coupe version also come standard in the convertible. She is definitely such a beaut.

The McLaren 675LT Spider is priced at $372,000 USD which should be around $500,000 AUD. And similar to the Coupe version, the convertible will have a limited run of just 500 units worldwide. If you are interested in buying one, you might want to check out the dealership as soon as possible!
