The Nurburgring is one of the best places to test the mettle of any street machine. The VW Golf GTI Clubsport S holds the current track record for front wheel drive cars at the famed racing circuit. Well, Honda wants it back and plans to use the new Civic Type R to do it.

The Honda Civic Type R is currently just a concept prototype car as of the moment
Under the hood of the Type R is the new turbocharged 2.0 litre inline four VTEC engine capable of producing an estimated 340bhp. The engine will be paired with a six-speed manual transmission. It is also expected that the car will be front wheel drive as they plan to go for the track record in the “Ring”. There are no performance figures for the concept car just yet.

The Civic Type R is more than just another four door sedan. Honda has clearly done a great job with the aesthetics as well. The new Type R has very aggressive yet functional styling. The front grille has been redesigned and includes carbon fibre splitters. The addition of the hood scoop will help the turbocharger get more air. The side skirts and rear diffusers are made from carbon fibre, which along with the slated ducts, help with the aerodynamics. The roof vortex generators and fixed carbon fibre rear wings generate downforce that the car needs.

The car will be stylishly sitting on 20 inch piano black alloy wheels. The aggressive body kit of the Type R comes as standard. The Type R will be sporting red trims which come as no surprise.
The Honda Civic Type R debuted at the Paris Motor Show and will come to North America at the SEMA show in November.
There is no word on how much one will cost or if it will be available in North America. Europe and the rest of the world will expect to start seeing the Type R in dealerships by the second half of 2017.
