Ever dreamed of being a race car driver? Or just fancy a day at the track? The British car builder Ginetta has an entry level car just for the weekend racer in you.

The G40 should be perfect for the novice race car driver but is also a street legal two door coupe. The G40 sports a Ford Zetec 1.8 litre four cylinder naturally aspirated engine with a modest output of 135bhp and a top speed of 125mph. Zero to 62mph time is a modest 5.8 seconds. The G40 has a six-speed sequential manual transmission and rear wheel drive.

The car weighs just 850kg and a power to weight ratio of 160bhp per tonne. It may not sound much but the car can be a lot of fun to drive around the track. The G40 is a proper race car but unlike other track-only racers, it is also street legal. So you can theoretically take this racer out for a bit of shopping or groceries.
For the entry price of £40,000, you will receive the G40, plus two days of training and four race weekends. The races will be held at Rockingham, Silverstone, Snetterton and Donington. Ginetta will provide you with the necessary track assistance for the race weekends, and you get an ARDS racing licence too.
The race weekend is composed of a practice session on a Friday. Saturday starts off with a qualifying session and a 15-minute race. Sunday will also feature another 15-minute race. Total race time for all four weekends is just three hours.
So what happens after your first racing season? You can stick with the G40 or upgrade yourself to Ginetta GT5. And if you are really committed to the racing scene you can graduate to the GT3 or GT4 race cars also offered by Ginetta.

So are you interested in a day out on the track? It would be noteworthy to mention that other cars, such as Atom and Caterham also have similar programmes for much less money. But the difference being that the G40 is a proper car while the Atom and Caterham, while street legal, are really meant for the track.
