Aston Martin and Red Bull Team Up for the AM-RB 001

Aston Martin has had an impressive lineup of supercars since the DB1. Recently the track-only Vulcan has been the making waves with fans and owners. Red Bull on the other hand, has been successful in motorsports especially with race engineer Adrian Newey at the helm. Red Bull Racing has won four consecutive titles from 2010 to 2013.

Aston Martin along with Red Bull Advanced Technologies is fulfilling Adrian Newey’s dream of creating a road-going supercar. The result of that partnership is the AM-RB 001, a track monster masquerading as a road legal hypercar.

The AM-RB 001 marries the car building experience of Aston Martin with the motor racing pedigree of Red Bull.

The AM-RB 001 will be powered by a V12 engine (no word on displacement yet) that will generate at least 1,000bhp to achieve the 1:1 power to weight ratio of the 1,000kg car. With that power to weight ratio, it is well into the LMP1 race car territory. The transmission being developed for the car will be lighter than the current dual-clutch gearboxes currently in use to save weight.

Research is also underway for the suspension and aerodynamic package. Adrian Newey has hinted that there will be an active suspension system to match the high downforce provided by the aerodynamics. With passive suspensions, the ride will be very bumpy at low speeds given the downforce. Aerodynamics might also have an active system as well.

The AM-RB 001 will also have a stripped down track version with a bigger rear wing and diffusers. The goal of the track car will be to compete with LMP1 lap times.

The AM-RB 001 is currently still in the development phase and it will still be some time before we see an actual car. The target production date will be in 2018 with around 99 to 150 units to be made. The price range of this hypercar is around £2,000,000 to £3,000,000. If you intend to get one, you better hurry as orders are quickly being filled. There are even some Formula One drivers who have already pre-ordered the hypercar. We will fill you in with more information about this hypercar when it becomes available so stay tuned!
