A week ago, a massive earthquake hit central Italy in the middle of the night. The death toll has reached almost 300 people with a huge number of families displaced. Responding to the disaster, Ferrari plans to build the 500th LaFerrari supercar to help in the disaster relief.
Ferrari has originally limited the production run of the LaFerrari to 499 units. But with the earthquake happening, they will be building the 500th unit to go into auction. All proceeds of the sale will be donated to the disaster relief operations.

The LaFerrari (“the Ferrari” for those who do not speak Italian), is one of the most sought after hybrid supercars from Ferrari.
The LaFerrari is powered by a 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine paired with a KERS electric motor capable of producing a massive 950bhp and 663 lb-ft of torque. The performance figures are 0 to 62mph in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 218mph. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox and rear wheel drive.
The kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) engine recovers energy when the car brakes. The energy is then stored in batteries and then channeled back to the wheels when the additional power is needed. This helps the LaFerrari’s acceleration time.
The LaFerrari was one of the hottest selling supercars ever.
It was offered to selected Ferrari owners and all units were sold out fast. The price of one of the original 499 units was around £1,000,000. The prices have steadily increased since the launch of the supercar going for double or even triple. The 500th unit will surely fetch a hefty sum as it will be a very significant car. With the proceeds going to a very good cause, we do hope that it would really bring in a small fortune.

Thank you, Ferrari, for the gesture.
