Aston Martin and Zagato Vanquish Concept is a Beauty

British carmaker Aston Martin and Italian coachbuilder Zagato has been working for the last 50 years to produce some really cool cars.

They started in 1960 with the DB4 GT Zagato which was a pretty cool car. Now they are producing the fifth car in the partnership, the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato, which will debut in the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

The Vanquish Zagato is a carbon fibre supercar using the Vanquish V12 as its base.

The Zagato uses the same Aston Martin engine in the Vanquish which is a naturally aspirated V12, but the power is increased to 592bhp. There are no performance figures as of yet but the Vanquish V12 could do the 0 to 62mph sprint in 4.1 seconds and reach speeds of 183mph.

The Vanquish Zagato should do better with the increased power. The transmission should still be the same six-speed automatic gearbox they call the Touchtronic 2.

Where the Vanquish Zagato shines is the exterior bodywork. The car body is made entirely of carbon fibre. The rear of the vehicle features the classic Zagato rear end and features quadruple exhaust tips. The taillights feature the “blades” LED design found in the Aston Martin Vulcan. The roof features the Zagato double bubble design and the side wheel arches slopes to merge with the roof. The windshield looks like racing inspired visors. There is also a retractable rear spoiler that extends at certain speeds.

The interior is made with a combination of carbon fibre and bronze leather. The Z pattern is stitched into the seats, doors and headrests. There are unspecified upgrades to the driving dynamics which would make sense with the history of both Aston Martin and Zagato in motor racing.

The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato is a concept car but we do hope it is a sign of things to come. If things continue in the direction that Aston Martin is going, the DB11 should be a car to look forward to. This car is a very impressive successor to the Vantage Zagato of 2011.
